Our St. Patrick’s Day celebration was a truly special event, thoughtfully planned by our Resident Party Activities Committee. Their creativity and enthusiasm helped bring together a day full of joy, connection, and meaningful moments for everyone in our community. In the days leading up to the celebration, residents came together to prepare. Our Cooking Club baked a delicious cake, filling the building with warmth and anticipation. Another group of residents collaborated to create festive table centerpieces, adding a personal and colorful touch to the party space. The committee also wanted to make sure there was plenty of fun and entertainment. One of the highlights of the day was our “human slots” casino game, which brought lots of laughter and excitement as residents tried their luck. We were also treated to a lively concert by Country Flavor, which had everyone tapping their toes and taking to the dance floor. The music, laughter, and shared experiences made for an unforgettable celebration. Our residents’ Community Connections Committee recently came together to discuss ways they could give back to the local community. After sharing ideas, they decided they wanted to make homemade dog treats and personally deliver them to the dogs at the local animal shelter. To bring their idea to life, a few members of our resident Cooking Club gathered in the dining room to get baking. Following a simple recipe, they measured ingredients, mixed the ingredients, and filled the molds to prepare them to be put in the freezer. This resident-led project reflects the heart of the Montessori approach in memory care: supporting choice, meaningful roles, and opportunities for contribution. Rather than planning activities for our residents, we create opportunities for them to use their skills, collaborate with one another, and make a positive impact beyond our community. Because of the idea sparked by the Community Connections Committee, residents were able to take their plan from discussion to action. From reading the recipe, to filling the molds, each step supported independence, engagement, and teamwork. Most importantly, our residents felt proud knowing their efforts will bring a little joy to dogs waiting for their forever homes.
