Your loved one deserves to live the best life possible

Watch your loved one thrive in an environment that feels like home

Navigating the aging journey is difficult.

We understand what’s at stake here: it’s not just someone, it’s your loved one.

Meanwhile, it’s on you to make the difficult decisions.

There's a Higher Path for our seniors

Senior care today is reactive, expensive, and siloed. It’s a sick-care system, not a health-care system (designed to keep seniors healthy). Most of us have accepted this status quo because it feels too big and complex to change. Not us. We’re taking the road less traveled and championing a higher standard of senior care.

Today at Bickford Senior Living of Saginaw Township, we held our monthly Bickford Store event! Our residents earn "Bickford Bucks" throughout the month by participating in a variety of activities such as exercise classes, games, and of course, bingo. These earned bucks are then used to shop for fun items and treats at our in-house store. It’s always a joy to see the residents excited, laughing, and enjoying the rewards of their active engagement. Community spirit was shining today!

Walking the Higher Path: How Montessori-Based Activities at Bickford of Saginaw Help Prevent Falls and ER Visits At Bickford of Saginaw, we believe that every resident deserves to live with purpose, dignity, and joy. That’s why we’ve embraced a Montessori-inspired approach to wellness—one that empowers our residents to stay active, engaged, and safe. What Is the Higher Path? The "Higher Path" is our philosophy of proactive care. Instead of waiting for health issues to arise, we focus on preventing them through meaningful engagement, personalized routines, and holistic wellness strategies. One of the most impactful tools in our toolkit? Montessori-based activities. Why Montessori? Originally developed for children, the Montessori method has been beautifully adapted for older adults—especially those living with dementia or cognitive decline. It emphasizes: -Choice and independence -Sensory stimulation -Purposeful tasks -Repetition and routine These principles help residents maintain cognitive function, physical coordination, and emotional well-being—all of which are crucial in preventing falls and emergency room visits. Montessori in Action at Bickford of Saginaw Here’s how we integrate Montessori-based activities into daily life: -Purposeful Tasks Residents participate in familiar, meaningful activities like folding laundry, setting tables, or organizing supplies. These tasks reinforce motor skills, balance, and a sense of contribution. -Cognitive Engagement We offer puzzles, sorting games, and memory activities tailored to each resident’s abilities. These help maintain mental sharpness and reduce confusion, which can lead to falls. -Movement with Intention Gentle exercise routines, chair yoga, and walking clubs are designed to improve strength and coordination. Activities are often paired with music or rhythm to enhance engagement and reduce fall risk. -Sensory Stations We create calming sensory experiences using textures, scents, and sounds. These stations help residents self-regulate, reducing agitation and the likelihood of unsafe movements. -Social Connection Group activities like gardening, cooking, and storytelling foster community and reduce isolation—a key factor in overall health and safety. The Results Speak for Themselves Since implementing Montessori-based programming, we’ve seen: -Fewer falls -Reduced ER visits -Improved mood and engagement -Greater resident independence -Our residents aren’t just living—they’re thriving. A Safer, More Joyful Tomorrow At Bickford of Saginaw, we’re proud to walk alongside our residents on the Higher Path. Through Montessori-based activities, we’re not only preventing falls and hospital visits—we’re nurturing lives filled with purpose, connection, and joy. #BickfordOfSaginaw #MontessoriForSeniors #SeniorWellness #FallPrevention #HigherPathCare #DementiaCare #PurposefulLiving #MontessoriMethod #SeniorSafety #EngagedAging #HealthyAging #ElderCareInnovation #MemoryCareMatters #MontessoriMoments #SeniorLivingWithPurpose

Bickford Saginaw Township Achieves Bronze Level Certification as a Montessori Inspired Lifestyle® Community Bickford Saginaw Township joins an exclusive group of credentialed senior living communities that have implemented a revolutionary Montessori-based approach to memory care. Saginaw, 09/23/2025— The team at Bickford Saginaw Township is devoted to building a Montessori Inspired Lifestyle® (MIL) for their community, earning them a Bronze Level credential. The MIL program was created by the Center for Applied Research in Dementia (CARD) after one of its founders, Dr. Cameron Camp, adapted Dr. Maria Montessori’s principles for older adults with dementia. Guided by CARD, staff learned how to implement the Montessori principles of equality, dignity, and respect into their community. Staff were trained to empower residents with memory impairment to be as independent as possible. This is achieved through tapping into each resident’s remaining strengths, designing environments they can thrive in, and helping them find purposeful activities and meaningful roles within their community. Communities effectively using Montessori principles benefit from healthier and happier residents, fewer drugs, fewer responsive behaviors, more satisfied families, and better staffing and census (Witt-Hoblit, Miller, & Camp, 2016). Bronze Level organizations have resident-led committees, multidisciplinary Learning Circles, effective signage and environmental cues, and a system for residents to volunteer for purposeful community services activities, among many other milestones. “At Bickford Saginaw Township, we’ve embraced the Montessori lifestyle because it reflects who we are—‘whatever it takes.’ Through daily tasks such as cleaning, exercise, chores, and job duties, our residents experience joy, purpose, and a true sense of belonging. This approach empowers them to live healthier, happier lives while giving our staff meaningful ways to connect and grow. We’ve learned that Montessori isn’t just a program, it’s a way of living that strengthens our entire community and aligns perfectly with our mission to enrich happiness in life’s journey.”-Mel Kline, Executive Director At Bickford, we believe senior living should feel like home — filled with joy, purpose, and belonging. With delicious scratch-made meals, engaging activities, and caregivers who do whatever it takes, your loved one is supported every step of the way. Our nationally recognized HigherPath health model and Montessori program empower residents to live happier, healthier, longer lives. Family-owned since 1991, we remain devoted to serving yours. We are ALL getting really frustrated at the continuous meal problems. If corporate is deciding these meal plans then they need to make sure there are enough ingredients for them!! There needs to be enough bread/butter/creamer/coffee/jelly ETC!! THEY need to come and eat at the facility with residents, unannounced to see and taste what our families are attempting to eat. The kitchen staff... Jenell...bless her...she's not miracle worker. There NEEDS to be more organized prep, cook and serve time management. If there's supposed to be prep cook back there than he has to much on his hands! Why is he not helping dish up food, move the plates to counter, help check on waters/coffee?? Residents sit there for over 20 minutes or more before water is poured or coffee started and longer for food to start to be served! I've seen it too many times, different days. Weekends are JOKE!! Come on... start that BEFORE you RUSH them all down. They all look forward to their " TWO SMALL"cups of coffee!!! More often than not food is cold when brought out, either over or under cooked, not cut when some need it cut. Seen that too many times. (name removed) can only do so much!! **Nursing is not following through with Drs orders on more than one occasion. I found a sore on mom's leg, reported to the (name removed) and the hospice nurse. A cream was ordered to put on twice a day. It was NOT done consistently as it was not healing. The hospice nurse reported to me. One evening I had get the med passer to come put it on. Daily "things" are not being recorded in charts and change over reports a

I appreciate the extra efforts put forth toward caring for my brother. It's not always easy. He's not your typical guy… But there are many of you that can see him as he is and meet him on his level… Learning to connect with each resident is an art… And I appreciate so much those of you who have figured him out

Only one concern. It's hard to get walkers and wheelchairs in through the front door because there is a strip of metal there that you have to go over and it's difficult to get walkers and wheelchairs in. If they could level that it would be easier and safer to get residents into the Saginaw Bickford. Thank you.

I understand how difficult it is to get "good" help. People are not raised with the work ethic as my generation was. There has been a big problem with how the aides are transferring mom to toilet: some do not realize or know that mom doesn't have the strength to "stand" holding the bar with ONE half good arm! I witnessed some have her stand, hold the bar and they're BEHIND her wheelchair and completely move away. They should be by her side, guide her up, slide chair away and proceed to move pants down. She's can't just back up either! She pivots slow. Same with getting her bed: why aren't they trained to LIFT UNDER HER ARMS?? Not left with just her bad side and attempt to get her bed!! She gets very nervous and more shaky! She can pivot slow if she's held up not slipping to her left side. I've witnessed where she ends up 1/2 on the edge of the bed. Then it's attempted to left her legs and she ends up across her bed. EVERYONE needs to be trained how to hold and transfer safely for both of them. Also getting her out of bed: mom says they "grab" her right forearm to pull her up, that's her stroke side. They should attempt to reach under her arm to pull up. She's had many bruises and some tears. We understand it's not an easy task, mom says I'm too heavy for them. There is a safe and proper way for everyone. And hygiene care is not completed at bedtime: teeth and face washed, powder under breast... the gals are in a "hurry" as mom says and won't bother them. Some are great and some not. I can't name them but ALL should be doing this care in the morning and evening. Mom won't

While I'm really happy with my mom's care, it upsets her to not know who is assigned to her each day. I don't why it bothers her so much to not know because she is always taken care of but if she could be told each morning, that would be one less thing for her to stew about!

All the employees that we have communicated with throughout the past month have been wonderful. Please keep these pleasant attitudes. We especially like when you encourage her. We can see that she is very content. Now for the challenge for (name removed) and I, to remember all the caregivers names. Thank you for all you do. We'll see you in a month.
