Yesterday was National Play-Doh Day. So we decided to have some fun with it. The Ladies and I did a sculpture class, with Play-Doh now waiting for their master pieces to dry. Play-Doh sure has changed over the years, we had some that smelled like bananas, grapes, cotton candy. and ever some that glittered. What can I say, fun was had by all. We ended up with a wolly worm, rose, pumpkins, bowl full of lemons, hearts, and flowers. Beautiful.

"Every day might not be good, but there is good in every day". This quote couldn't ring more true than it has the last 2 weeks in Eastern Iowa. The storm that rolled through Iowa on Monday, August 10, called a Derecho, is still wreaking havoc on not only our branches, but businesses, farm land, schools, and utilities. Today marks 2 weeks that our Marion location is still without internet and phone service. Thankfully we did receive a generator that ran our branch for over a week, and we had very little other disruption. The amount of love, support, and dedication from our caregivers and families really was second to none. As these folks dealt not only with their own destruction at home, they showed up day after day, caring for our residents, keeping them safe, and providing extra help. Even a caregiver from our Iowa city location, Henry Ramirez-Mesa, spent 2 days in Marion working on clean up, cutting up branches, picking up shingles and siding, helping where he was needed, and did it all with a smile. So even though those first few days weren't all that good, we saw the good in others and are ever so thankful.

Know the affordability of senior living

Many families are surprised at the affordability of senior living as compared to what they are currently spending at home. Check out our Expense Worksheet to compare for yourself.

Our Menu

Fruit Salad with cottage cheese
This was a favorite for many in the 50’s Diners

Coke a Cola
Every soda fountain and Diner was serving Coke a Cola, we are too

Patti Melt
A grilled seasoned hamburger, served with grilled onions, Swiss cheese on dark rye bread. Ask for some 1000 island dressing if you want to spread on your burger

Grilled Turkey and cheddar cheese Sandwich
This was a classic sandwich served at the old Woolworth stores. Fresh cooked turkey grilled, topped with Cheddar cheese then placed on grilled sour dough bread

Onion Rings
Everyone liked breaded and fried onions to create traditional items at every Diner. Ask for ketchup to dip your onion rings

Harvard Beets
Sliced beets simmered with sugar and white vinegar

Sautéed Zucchini
Zucchini sticks sautéed with a splash of balsamic vinegar

Banana Splits
This has always been a favorite in every soda parlor, a mixture of Vanilla, Chocolate and Strawberry ice cream, topped with strawberry sauce, pineapple sauce, whipped topping, nuts and sprinkles and of course a banana

Milkshakes and Malts
Bring your blenders and straws because we are making milkshakes in the afternoon. There is nothing like a thick milkshake where you have to suck so hard your head hurts. Your choice of flavors, chocolate, vanilla or strawberry
