Did you know that most Bickford branches offer a retreat suite? A retreat suite is a fully furnished apartment at Bickford for use by someone short term. Many folks like the retreat suite option, as it gives them a chance to "try it before you buy it" without the commitment of furnishing their own apartment. A few reasons for a retreat stay would include someone trying out Bickford to ensure it is a good fit before moving in all of their own belongings, a rest stop between the hospital and home for additional recovery, and it can also be used by a family member caregiver who needs a break or is experiencing health issues for themselves, and their loved one can vacation with us! If you are considering assisted living, give Bickford's retreat suite a try! Check with your local Bickford for availability. Beth Fleming, Divisional Director of Operations Eastern IA/Western IL

Erica Wiseman

Bob Trauffer is the father-in-law to one of our BFMs and made the decision to move into Bickford following an illness that landed him back in the Quad Cities to be closer to family. He has always been a very active, hardworking, outdoorsman who enjoys everything about being in the great outdoors. From the moment he moved into Bickford he has been actively exercising daily and has coached other residents to join him on daily walks around the branch. Erica Wiseman our Asst Director learned from Bob and his family that he was the Co-Captain his senior year of high school for wrestling at Davenport High. He started his wrestling career as a sophomore and excelled at the sport, helping his team take home the championship trophy with an undefeated season his senior year. He is so very proud of this and enjoys discussing it with others. In November 2019 he was interviewed and featured for his many accolades and accomplishments through his wrestling career with all his past memorabilia displayed now at the Davenport School Museum. The Quad Cities Times newspaper wrote an article highlighting this special honor. Erica’s youngest son, Dom, is a sophomore in high school and an esteemed athlete in football. He decided to try out for the wrestling team this year. Erica would discuss the sport with Bob because she found herself uncertain of the sport when attending her son’s meets. She decided to ask Bob if he would accompany her to a local meet so Bob could help her decipher the sport. Bob couldn’t have been happier to oblige. He talked about it for the entire week leading up to the event. Bob was in his element that night and the pictures tell that story. He met the team, shared pictures, his career story, and even showed Dominic his “signature move” that led him to his highlighted career. It was an amazing night for all, and Bob is still beaming with pride.

  3. Know the affordability of senior living.

Many families are surprised at the affordability of senior living as compared to what they are currently spending at home. Check out our Expense Worksheet to compare for yourself.
  4. Remember what matters most.
