I caught Lillian this morning helping our activities director and have to shine the spotlight on her! First of all, she was the chief secretary for the Department of Defense's Richmond field office for years and made zero clerical errors her entire career (which I'm pretty sure has to be some sort of government record). Now every week she loves helping our activities director, Peggy, by: hanging drawings that she and other residents color, putting up the activities calendar, or anything else she can think of just to be a big help to Peggy. Keep going strong, Lillian!

This is Colleen sitting with her mom, Ilyne, who lives with us here at Bickford. There are so many reasons why I love this picture, but probably the biggest reason why is because I see a mother and daughter just enjoying being together without any hassle or worry. Ilyne gets to relax and Colleen gets to be the daughter who can enjoy relaxing right along with mom. Their family and their relationship is such a beautiful thing to witness and I love being part of a community that helps create the environment to make that possible. As we say: "Family over everything."

It may be cold outside, but we've got some hot and tropical vibes happening inside! We want to extend a huge thank you to Mika Ah Loe, who drove all the way from Pennsylvania to share his rich Hawaiian heritage with us all day. And thanks for trying to teach us how to dance, especially those of us (me) who have a hard time grasping the concept of "rhythm."

Christmas week was such a blast! We got to hand out gifts to everyone during lunch Christmas Eve (because the only thing better than food is food AND presents). We were then serenaded by local high school senior, Jolie Smith, who sang us some beautiful Christmas songs. And to top it all off, one of our favorite therapy dogs, Millie, stopped by all decked out for Christmas herself!

Many families are surprised at the affordability of senior living as compared to what they are currently spending at home. Check out our Expense Worksheet to compare for yourself.
  4. Remember what matters most.

While there are many things you should buy at a discount, care isn’t one of them.
