Opening Day is Here! There’s nothing quite like the excitement of Opening Day to kick off baseball season! From the crack of the bat to the cheers of the crowd, it’s a time-honored tradition that brings everyone together. Our residents had a great time celebrating by playing their own version of “baseball,” reading about the history of the game, making their own baseball caps, and sharing interesting facts. Whether you're watching from home, cheering on your favorite team, or reminiscing about seasons past, today is all about celebrating the love of the game. We grilled hotdogs and hamburgers and had some great times with friends. Who are you rooting for this season?

When Jean first began struggling with her gait due to Parkinson’s disease, even simple walks down the hallway became frustrating. Her steps felt unpredictable, her balance uncertain, and the fear of falling was always in the back of her mind. But everything began to change when she started working with FOX Therapy. Through personalized, one-on-one sessions, Jean’s therapist introduced a powerful and unexpected tool: music. By incorporating music therapy into her treatment, Jean discovered that rhythm could help “retrain” her brain. With carefully selected songs and steady beats, she began practicing walking in time with the music. The results were remarkable. Her steps became more consistent, her stride length improved, and she felt more confident moving around her home. Music gave Jean something Parkinson’s had taken away—a sense of flow and control. Instead of focusing on each difficult step, she found herself moving naturally, guided by rhythm rather than hesitation. Today, Jean continues to use music as part of her daily routine. Whether it’s a favorite song or a simple beat, it helps her stay active, engaged, and independent. She continues to play the piano and stays active, finding joy in both movement and music. Our residents made the most of a warm spring day by celebrating Free Ice Cream Cone Day at Dairy Queen! Everyone enjoyed a classic vanilla cone, shared laughs, and soaked up the sunshine. From wearing green to sharing stories and treats, the spirit of the holiday brought everyone together. We were blessed with a wonderful visit from the Christian Apostolic Church group from Mediapolis! Their volunteers shared beautiful songs with our residents, filling the room with music, laughter, and joy. Residents clapped along, sang familiar tunes, and shared plenty of smiles and chuckles with the group. It was a heartwarming time for everyone, and we are so grateful for the kindness and joy they brought to our community.

At Bickford, everyday moments turn into meaningful experiences for residents and couples alike. One couple in particular has found a wonderful rhythm in their daily routines, balancing time together with activities they each enjoy on their own. In the mornings, they often start their day side by side at breakfast, catching up with friends and planning what they’d like to do. One of their favorite shared activities is attending music programs and community socials. They enjoy listening to live performances, tapping along to familiar songs, and spending time with neighbors in a warm, welcoming atmosphere. They also like taking short walks together through the community, enjoying conversation and the simple pleasure of being together. Baking Club in Mary B’s is always a treat! Everyone loves to help, whether it’s mixing, measuring, or decorating. We always have a great time together and enjoy the delicious treats we make.

Our residents enjoy staying active and having a sense of purpose in their day. One simple way they like to stay involved is by helping with light cleaning tasks. It’s something many of them have done their whole lives, and they take pride in continuing to lend a hand. These small activities help keep everyone moving, engaged, and feeling accomplished. Most importantly, it creates a sense of teamwork and community while helping our residents stay active and involved.
